NTHU Implementation Guidelines on AI Ethics Statements and Learning Assessment

In the Age of AI, How Can We Ensure That Students Are Still Truly Learning?

Generative AI has become an increasingly common tool for student learning and assignment completion, bringing new challenges to course design and assessment. Which learning tasks may appropriately involve AI? Which core competencies should students still demonstrate independently? And how should AI-use policies be clearly communicated in course syllabi?

The NTHU Implementation Guidelines on AI Ethics Statements and Learning Assessment are built around three core principles: Transparency, Responsibility, and Intentional Design. The guidelines provide practical guidance on modes of student–AI collaboration, three criteria for AI use, the Two-Lane Approach to assessment, sample AIGC ethics statements, and recommendations regarding the use of AI detection tools, helping instructors rethink teaching and assessment in the age of AI.

The key question in integrating AI into teaching is not simply whether AI should be allowed, but how to ensure that students continue to develop independent thinking, sound judgment, and core competencies while using AI.

From syllabus design to learning assessment, these guidelines offer practical principles and examples to help instructors make more intentional decisions about how AI can be integrated into their teaching.
