(Building a Sustainable World Through Open Education )」,臺灣代表團共13人參與,國立清華大學郭孟倫老師、國立陽明交通大學李大偉老師與蔣淑貞老師及臺北醫學大學萬序恬老師等,將於年會中發表5篇論文,介紹臺灣的開放教育成果與特色。
Press Release – NTHU EditionTaiwan Open Course and Education Consortium Delegation Attends 2023 Global Open Education Conference in Canada The Taiwan Open Course and Education Consortium (TOCEC), led by Secretary-General Prof. Yong-Sheng Chen (Vice President for Academic Affairs, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University), participated in the 2023 Global Open Education Conference, the annual flagship event organized by the Global Open Education Network, which has over 250 members from more than 150 countries and regions. The conference, hosted by NorQuest College (Canada), was held from October 16–18, 2023 at the Edmonton Conference Center. This year’s theme was “Building a Sustainable World Through Open Education.” The Taiwan delegation included 13 participants, with representatives from National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), Taipei Medical University (TMU), and others. Together, they presented five research papers showcasing Taiwan’s achievements and innovations in open education. The first presentation was delivered by Prof. Ta-Wei Li (Department of Applied Chemistry, NYCU), who introduced a cross-disciplinary course, “Principles and Practice of the Virtual Chemistry Lab,” highlighting student projects using the ChemCollective Virtual Lab, an open-source simulation tool developed by Prof. Yaron’s research group at Carnegie Mellon University. By designing new virtual experiments, students were able to deepen their understanding of the relationship between chemical reactions and fundamental scientific principles—demonstrating the power of open educational resources. Prof. Meng-Lun Kuo (NTHU) and Prof. Shi-Tien Wan (TMU) presented research on MOOCs. NTHU showcased how artificial intelligence and personalized push notifications can enhance learner engagement and performance in MOOCs, while TMU shared insights from their analysis of learner motivation in self-directed MOOC study, aimed at improving learning outcomes. Ahead of the conference, TOCEC Chairman Prof. Chi-Hung Lin (President of NYCU) encouraged the delegation not only to introduce Taiwan’s open education practices to the world but also to bring back valuable international experiences to further enrich Taiwan’s open education ecosystem.
